Music at Mass is important, very important! Liturgical music by its very nature should enhance the worship experience of all who are present. Creating an atmosphere of reverence, praise, meditation, and celebration. The Second Vatican Council declared that “all who are present at Mass should fully and actively participate by rite of baptism. This participation makes Christ truly present in the celebration of the liturgy.”
Full and Active Participation. The members of St. Benedict’s music ministry believe there is no better way to actively or fully participate than by singing or playing with the choir! It is a meaningful way to answer the call to share our time, talent, and treasure. Our repertoire combines traditional hymnody and contemporary music, allowing for the opportunity to learn harmonies, rhythm, and basic music theory. Instrumentation includes organ, keyboard, guitar, bass, and violin. Other instruments are certainly welcome.
Membership, Responsibilities, and Schedule. Choir membership is open to all, regardless of formal musical training background. If you love to sing (or play an instrument) and love the Lord, then you are invited to give the choir a try. We strive to maintain a casual, friendly atmosphere in the choir loft, with a happy mix of business and pleasure. After all, music should be fun! However, choir membership does require commitment. Members are expected to attend rehearsals regularly to participate during weekend Masses.
