Communion
Eucharist (Holy Communion) in the Catholic Church is a Sacrament and a Sacrifice and is the source and summit of our Christian life. We believe that the consecrated bread and wine are truly the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ as given to us through his Apostles at his Last Supper. This is truly the sacrament of love, unity and remembrance.

In the Diocese of St. Petersburg, First Communion (Eucharist) preparation is a two-year process for children and consists of two parts: faith formation classes and First Communion and Reconciliation Preparation:
- First Holy Communion – Year I: to study about the basic catechesis of the Christian life.
- First Holy Communion – Year II: to deepen the understanding of the two Sacraments: Reconciliation and Eucharist. After two years, the students will solemnly celebrate the reception of these two Sacraments.
The process typically starts in First Grade, with the student receiving First Reconciliation and First Communion in Second Grade.

NOTE: Students attending SJP2 Catholic School, preparation for the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist falls under Faith Formation. Preparation for the Sacraments is a separate and distinct process from regular faith formation. Students in the second grade must attend preparation for the sacraments at the parish level.
