"Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them;
for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."
(Matthew 19:14)
Our Faith Formation classes surround our weekly 10:30 AM Mass, which is a popular choice for our parish families to fulfill their weekly Sunday Mass obligation together. Classes begin at 9:00am and the students walk to the church at 10:20 to attend the 10:30 mass with their family.
Our classes are age-appropriate, characteristic of developmental stages, and start with God as creator of all and Jesus as the teacher of our way of life. They present the Bible as God's Living Word. Children will learn about the need for prayer and worship, the Sacraments, and Salvation History. As Jesus grew in wisdom and grace, so do His children. Our classes are held September through April, coinciding with the school calendar as much as possible. Students are placed in their grade level class and attend one class per week. Each class is led by an adult volunteer catechist and an aide who have participated in the Diocese of St. Petersburg's Safe Environment Program and have completed a Level II background screening.
NOTE: Students attending SJP2 Catholic School, preparation for the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation falls under Faith Formation. Preparation for the Sacraments is a separate and distinct process from regular faith formation. Students in the Second and Eighth grades must attend preparation for the sacraments at the parish level.
